The Difference Between Dry and Wet Self-Priming Pump Sets

12 December 2024

Many centrifugal pumps operate with what is known as positive inlet pressure. This means the pump is positioned below the liquid level in the pit or tank — also referred to as gravity feed.

This is very different from so-called self-priming pumps, where the pump is positioned above the liquid that needs to be drawn in. This setup is common in civil engineering applications, industry, and the wastewater sector.

To lift the liquid that is located below the pump level, two types of pump technologies are used: dry and wet self-priming centrifugal pumps.

In this whitepaper, we are pleased to explain the differences to you.
